Privacy policy

Heft for Android and iOS · Last updated 9 October 2026

Heft is made by Luke Kavenagh ("I", "me"). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. In short: Heft collects nothing. It has no account, no servers, no ads and no analytics, and it never sends your training data to me or to anyone else. The only outside service involved is the app store you installed it from, and only if you choose to leave a tip.

Information stored on your device

Your exercises, sets, sessions, saved workouts and settings are stored in a database file on your phone. That file stays on your phone. Uninstalling Heft, or clearing its data in your device settings, deletes it — so export a backup first if you want to keep your history.

Exporting and importing

Settings → Export Backup writes your whole history to a CSV file and hands it to your device's own share sheet. Where it goes next is entirely your choice: iCloud, Google Drive, email, or straight into your phone's storage. Heft does not upload it anywhere and does not know where you sent it. Once the file is in another service, that service's privacy policy governs it, not this one.

Importing works the other way round: you pick a CSV — one of Heft's own exports, or an export from FitNotes — and Heft reads it directly off your device. Nothing is uploaded in order to read it.

Tips

Settings has an optional tip jar. It unlocks nothing; the app is identical whether you use it or not. The payment is handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store, and I never see your card or payment details.

Like every developer, I receive the standard order records the stores provide through their consoles (such as order number, date, product, price and country), which I use for accounting and to handle refunds. I also receive an automatic alert when a tip is bought; it contains only the product name, nothing about who bought it.

Crash reports

There is no crash reporting or analytics SDK in Heft. If you have allowed your device to share usage and diagnostics data with Google or Apple, the stores may give me aggregated crash and performance statistics of their own (Android vitals, App Store analytics). These help me find and fix bugs, and do not identify you.

Links out of the app

Heft can open two things in your browser or store app: this policy, and the app's own store listing if you choose to leave a rating. Opening them sends no information about you from Heft.

What Heft does not do

Children

Heft does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The only personal data involved is what Google Play or the Apple App Store handle under their own policies if you leave a tip.

Your rights

Because your data never leaves your device, there is nothing for me to look up, export or delete on your behalf. You hold all of it: export it from Settings at any time, and delete it by clearing the app's data or uninstalling.

Changes

If the app starts handling information differently, I will update this page and the date at the top.
