Clearcast for iOS and Android · Last updated 9 October 2026

Clearcast is made by Luke Kavenagh ("I", "me"). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. In short: there are no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and I never build a profile of you. The app does send a location to a handful of weather and air-quality services so it can tell you the conditions there — that, and the app store that handles an optional tip, is the whole of it.

Location

To show the weather and air quality where you are, Clearcast asks for your device's location. It only ever requests "while using the app" access, never background location. You can also skip the permission entirely and just search for places by name — the app works fine that way.

Whether the location comes from your device or from a search, Clearcast uses it only to fetch the conditions for that spot. The coordinates are sent to the services listed below as part of a plain weather request. They carry no account, no device identifier and nothing that ties them to you, and they are not used to track you or build any history of where you've been.

The services a weather request reaches

To turn a location into a forecast and an air-quality reading, the app contacts:

Each of these receives only the location and the unit/language preference needed to answer, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Information stored on your device

Your saved places, recent searches, chosen units and language, and a cached copy of the most recent readings are kept in local storage on your phone. None of it is uploaded to me or synced to any account. Uninstalling Clearcast, or clearing its data in your device settings, removes it.

Widgets

If you add a Clearcast widget to your home screen, it refreshes in the background by making the same kind of weather request described above for your current or chosen location. It stores its latest reading on your device so it can draw itself, exactly like the app.

The tip

Clearcast is free and nothing in it is locked. The one optional purchase is a tip — "buy Luke a coffee" — sold through the App Store on iOS and Google Play on Android. Apple or Google processes the payment, and I never receive your card or payment details.

Like every developer, I receive the standard order records the stores provide through App Store Connect and the Play Console (such as order number, date, product, price and country), which I use for accounting and refunds. I also get an automatic alert when a tip is bought; it contains only the product name, nothing about who bought it.

Crash reports

If you've allowed your device to share usage and diagnostics data with Apple or Google, the App Store and Google Play may give me aggregated crash and performance statistics (Android vitals and Apple's crash reports). These help me find and fix bugs, and do not identify you.

What Clearcast does not do

Children

Clearcast does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. It has no accounts, and the only data it handles is a location sent to the weather services above and whatever the app stores handle for an optional tip under their own policies.

Changes

If the app starts handling information differently, I will update this page and the date at the top.
